Chair of Finance and Budget

“Pray First, Aim High, and Stay Focused!” Counsel I give to myself and others as we try to do God’s will.

I have served on the Budget and Investment Subcommittees, the Debt Reduction and Nonprofit Security Grants initiatives, and in other areas as needed to ensure the Committee achieved its responsibility to provide oversight of all financial matters of the church.

I have been blessed to have over thirty years of fiscal, administrative, management and public relations skills in government, non-profit, and corporate environments including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/ Office of Head Start, Fairfax County Government, U.S. Conference of Mayors, and GTE Corporation.

For over ten years, I worked as Budget Analyst for Fairfax County Government Office for Children and then as Budget Team Leader for the Fairfax County Department of Family Services where I led a team of 11 budget analysts, and had oversight and responsibility for a $130 million General Fund budget, $170 million in direct state aid payments, and over $14 million in federal, state, and corporate grants.

For over 20 years, I worked as a Head Start Monitoring Review Team Leader and managed teams ranging in size from 1 to 18 reviewers responsible for conducting triennial monitoring reviews mandated by the Federal Head Start Act. In that capacity, I reviewed governance, management, and fiscal systems of Head Start and Early Head Start programs operated by non-profit organizations, private corporations, universities and governments.

As President and CEO of my own business, I conducted governance and fiscal training workshops for Head Start agencies and other nonprofit organization throughout the country as well as for the University of Maryland, Texas Tech University, and San Francisco State University. In 2008, God blessed me with the opportunity to enter the international arena when I traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with the Academy for Educational Development to assist in developing budgets and a center assessment system for private day care centers serving children with disabilities.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University and a Master in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting from George Mason University. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and currently reside in Alexandria, VA
