Lisa is a twenty-seven year employee of the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. She began her tenure in 1990 following a judicial clerkship with the Fairfax County Circuit Court. From 1990 to 2003, Lisa was an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. While serving in that capacity, she was responsible for prosecuting all crimes occurring in Arlington County and Reagan National Airport as well as felony offenses occurring in the City of Falls Church. As an Assistant, Lisa made regular appearances in the Arlington County General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Circuit Court. Her caseload involved both violent and non-violent crimes, including embezzlement, fraud, larceny, sexual assault, robbery and homicide. Lisa also served as liaison to the City of Falls Church police department as well as a guest lecturer at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy.
In 2003, Lisa was promoted to the position of Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney becoming the first African-American in Arlington County history to hold that title. She now serves as Administrator for the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Her duties include managing a multi-million dollar annual budget, functioning as human resources officer, supervising the legal support staff, advising the Commonwealth’s Attorney on issues related to finance and/or personnel and serving as liaison to various state and local agencies. Lisa continues to make periodic appearances in the Arlington County Circuit Court. In January of 2013, she was appointed to the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board by the Chief Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court. As a member of the Disciplinary Board, she adjudicates cases involving lawyer misconduct. On July 1, 2017, Lisa began her term as First-Vice Chair of the Disciplinary Board and will serve as Board Chair beginning July 1, 2018. She is the first African-American woman elected to either position. Lisa also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.
Lisa is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs and a Juris Doctor. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
